PET WEEK AT ST. PETERS NURSERIES

Gump manning the stall

The week beginning the 9th June, saw us up at St. Peters Nurseries for Pet Week. Unfortunately with it being such a beautiful week we were not very busy as I imagine people were on the beach and who would blame them. Gump found it a trifle warm so it really was Orange Dog who attended most days and made lots of new mates.

His first new friend was Snupps a beautiful Irish Setter belonging to Ro. They quite happily shared beds and probably discussed Ireland as I would think that many of Snupp's family originated from there and Orange Dog spent his early days there.

Then another friend was made in the form of a Chinese Crested pooch called Peggy she was only young but was quite happy to share her chewy sticks with Orange I think she quite liked her new big friend.

But the 'piece de resistance' were Rufus and William the Belgium Hares, yes I did say hares. Annette representing Rabbit Welfare owns these two magnificant creatures and although does not recommend them as pets these two were so domesticated. They were that laid back they were near horizontal. Well you can imagine Orange Dog thought he had died and gone to heaven and he didn't even have to chase them there they were looking at him from a table top what more could a greyhound want.

Day one saw Orange gazing at Rufus on the table but day two well take a look at the progress of the Greyhound and the Hare (PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME).

Thankfully it was not 'hare today and gone tomorrow'!!!!!

I do have some better shots but as yet can't get them on. So despite the lack of people Orange Dog made new friends and I met Yasmin from Guernsey an incredible photographer with the patience of a saint. In really hot hot conditions she snapped away at children and animals and if you go to Pet Week you will see some of her wonderful work. She can also be found on www.yasmin-photographer.com.

Amongst the joy our week ended up in total sadness with the passing of our lovely brindle girl Kella. She had been poorly for a couple of weeks drastically loosing weight and on Friday her fight ended and we let her go to the bridge. It never gets any easier and we miss her so.

Our beautiful Kella as we remember her
