  ARSING ABOUT AT CHARITY WEEK

Before I explain the nature of this rude title to our Charity week in town I want to let people know that we had two very special ladies missing from our stall this week. Alison, who you all know, and Jude her lovely mum who so sadly passed away on the 9th September after a brave battle with illness. Jude often helped us out at charity functions or failing that would look after Alison's pooches that didn't attend. Our heart goes out to Al at this dreadful time and we just want her to know that we will always remember her mum with such fondness and will miss her. This is such a hard time for Alison but we hope to see her back with us soon.

Now you may well be wondering why I am sitting under the table and why indeed I chose that rude title for our event, well I had to do a radio interview. Jersey Radio always support our charity and asked for an interview in town. Now I don't know if you are aware of the fact that I am deaf in one ear and have tinitus. No I am not asking for the sympathy vote (oh all right then) but I can't hear very well when their is background noise despite the hearing aid so talking on radio on a mobile in the middle of town well just a nightmare. Then inspiration struck that if I went under the table I might be able to hear better - so there you go a simple explanation.

Down the business, well what a fantastic week it proved to be the weather was ideal despite threats of rain and so many people came to talk to us and indeed donate money and buy merchandise including Christmas cards of which we sold 63 packets how good is that in September!!!!

This year's pooches attending were Fonz and Malarky as they always do plus Gump, now star of stage and screen, and Ziggy who spent a great deal of time exploring ladies handbags and purses.

In Alison's absence I was lucky enough to have Donna, Danny, Trish helping me plus Glen who popped across from work during his lunch hour. They were long seven hour days but thanks to the hot chocolate from the Potteries cafe across from us I survived!!! in fact I only come for the hot chocolate!!

This year our week started on Saturday then ran from Monday to Friday. On Saturday Jessie joined us whilst her dad did a bit of shopping. Jess sponsors Ruby and gives us a hand at some of the shows.

Jess seen here with Gump, Ziggy and Sean with his new dog Bolt who arrived a few weeks ago.

There were loads of visitors around and it is just amazing how many of them had greyhounds or knew people with them. Charles and Mari were on holiday all the way from Scotland and actually motor down so as they can bring their dogs and guess what one was Liam the 7 year old black greyhound the other a little mongrel called Rowan.

Louise in her dragon costume collecting for Hospice joined Trish, Donna and the gang for a photo and Hank one of our latest arrivals posed for a photo with his mum Leslie and 12 week old Huskie Pixi who took a shine to Hank.

We get loads of mums and babies coming to pet the dogs, greyhounds are a very gentle breed and parents are only too pleased to let their children come and pat them as was the case with Sampson who took a shine to our Fonz.

A greyhound gathering would not be complete without a visit from Angela and the delicious Minuit the little black whippet homed by Alison earlier this year. I have seen 6ft men melt when they meet this delightful little girl. We have decided to make Minuit our mascot and hope that Angela will bring her to our shows.

Young couple chat to Mal who together with Kentee come to take us home at the end of the day

So once again a very successful Charity Week came to an end and it only remains for us to thank Donna for spending her whole weeks holiday standing on street corners and not getting paid for it!!!! to Trish and Danny for helping out inbetween their working hours and taking big bad Podge for a sleep over and Glenn for holding the fort so as not only the dogs but also Donna and I could go for a wee. This is our last outdoor event for the year but we will be back bracing the elements again next year see you all then.
